Profile Settings
Your Verk profile helps your teammates understand who you are, what you do, and what you're good at. A complete profile makes collaboration easier and helps people know when to come to you for help.
Why your profile matters
Think about when someone new joins your organization, or when you're added to a new project. People want to know:
- Who are you?
- What's your role on the team?
- What are you working on?
- What are you good at?
Your profile answers all these questions at a glance. It also helps Verk's AI assistant understand your role better, so it can give you more relevant suggestions and help.
Accessing your profile settings
To edit your profile:
- Click your profile picture in the top right corner
- Select Settings from the dropdown
- Click Profile in the left sidebar
You'll see all your profile information here.

To change your username:
- Go to Settings → Profile

Usernames must be unique across your organization. If someone else is already using the username you want, you'll need to choose a different one.

- Can't start or end with an underscore or hyphen
- No spaces allowed
Good username examples:

Role
Your role is your job title or position. It helps people understand what you do on the team.
To set your role:
- Go to Settings → Profile
- Find the Role field
- Type your job title
- Click Save Changes
Be specific enough that people understand what you do, but not so specific that it's confusing.
Good role examples:
- Product Designer
- Senior Backend Engineer
- Marketing Manager
- Customer Support Specialist
- CEO
- Project Manager
Avoid:
- Overly long titles (keep it under 50 characters)
- Internal jargon that outsiders won't understand
- Multiple roles in one (pick your primary role)
Responsibilities
This is where you describe what you actually do day-to-day. It's more detailed than your role and helps people understand when to involve you in something.
To add your responsibilities:
- Go to Settings → Profile
- Find the Responsibilities field
- Type a brief description of what you do
- Click Save Changes
You have up to 500 characters, so keep it concise but informative.
Example responsibilities:
For a Product Designer: "I design user interfaces for our mobile app, run user research sessions, and create prototypes for new features. I work closely with the engineering team to ensure designs are implemented correctly."
For a Backend Engineer: "I build and maintain our API services, optimize database performance, and work on our payment processing system. I also review code and mentor junior developers."
For a Marketing Manager: "I plan and execute our content marketing strategy, manage our social media presence, and coordinate with the sales team on campaigns. I also analyze marketing metrics to improve our ROI."
Expertise level
Your expertise level helps people understand your experience level. This is especially useful in larger organizations where people might not know everyone's background.
To set your expertise level:
- Go to Settings → Profile
- Find the Expertise Level dropdown
- Select your level
- Click Save Changes
The available levels are:
Junior - You're relatively new to your field (0-2 years of experience). You're still learning the fundamentals and building your skills.
Mid - You have solid experience (2-5 years) and can work independently on most tasks. You understand best practices and can mentor less experienced team members.
Senior - You're highly experienced (5-10 years) and can handle complex challenges independently. You often mentor others and contribute to technical or strategic decisions.
Expert - You're a recognized expert in your field (10+ years) with deep knowledge. You set technical direction, solve the hardest problems, and often speak at conferences or write about your work.
Don't overthink this - it's just a rough guide. Pick what feels right for where you are in your career.

How your profile is used
Your profile information appears in several places throughout Verk:
In the team directory
When people browse your organization's team directory, they'll see your name, profile picture, role, and expertise level. They can click on your profile to see more details.
In task assignments
When you're assigned to a task, your name and profile picture appear on the task card. This helps everyone see who's responsible for what.
In comments and messages
Your profile picture appears next to all your comments and messages. Your name is clickable, so people can jump to your full profile to learn more about you.
In search results
When people search for help with something in your focus areas, your profile might appear in the results. This helps connect people who need help with people who can provide it.
For the AI assistant
Verk's AI assistant uses your profile information to provide better suggestions. For example:
- It might route tasks to you based on your focus areas
- It can suggest you as a reviewer for work related to your expertise
- It can adjust its communication style based on your expertise level
Keeping your profile up to date
Your role and responsibilities change over time, so keep your profile current:
Update your profile when:
- You get a promotion or role change
- You start working on a new project
- You learn a new skill or technology
- Your responsibilities shift
- You want to focus on different areas
- You notice your profile is more than 6 months old
It only takes a few minutes and makes a big difference in how people work with you.
Privacy and profile visibility
Your profile is visible to everyone in your organization. This is intentional - transparency helps teams work better together.
If you're in multiple organizations, each organization sees a separate profile. Your profile information in one organization doesn't carry over to another.
Your profile is not visible to people outside your organization. Only members of the same organization can see your information.
